Smile 2 is on the way from Paramount, and there's plenty to speculate over what awaits when The Smile Entity returns. The original Smile follows Dr. Rose Cotter, who has seven days to figure out how to successfully evade death from a demon after witnessing her patient’s demise. Originally slated for a straight-to-streaming release on Paramount+, Smile performed so well with test audiences that it was granted a theatrical release. Due to its unique marketing strategy and success at the box office, the sequel could be even bigger.

Since the entity in Smile can take any form, the sequel will follow a brand-new protagonist as she too tries to escape from the curse. Upping the ante since last time, Smile 2 concerns a pop star who is the next target of the demon, and must balance her tremendous fame with the encroaching evil. Though a sequel seemed inevitable after the success of the original film, Smile 2 opens the door for a whole slew of sequels that concern the grinning and ghoulish otherworldly entity.

The First Clip From Smile 2 Is Revealed

After a series of trailers were released in the second half of 2024, the latest news comes in the form of a full clip from Smile 2. Using a scene that is featured heavily in both trailers, the clip shows Naomi Scott's pop star character, Skye, as she is haunted by a terrifying vision in her dressing room before a concert. A figure (who appears to be Lukas Gage's character) lurks directly behind her as she looks in the mirror. As she tries to move, the figure stays in step with her movements and, in a shocking twist, it grabs her face and forces her to smile.

The Smile 2 release date has been set for October 18, 2024. This will mean the Smile sequel will arrive around two years after the original, and like the first movie, it will also have a theatrical release. While there's no news on when it will be available to stream it's expected that Smile 2 will also make its way to Paramount+.

Naomi Scott Leads The Sequel's Cast

Due to the ending of Smile, it was always assumed that Sosie Bacon’s Rose wouldn't be seen again, but there are still plenty of cast members who could return. Kyle Gallner, who plays Rose’s detective ex-boyfriend Joel, has already been confirmed to return to the sequel's cast, while Jesse T. Usher as Trevor and Gillian Zinser as Holly also could both come back as well. Finally, every horror movie needs its monster, which means that Marti Matulis returning as The Smile Monstrosity would be a must for Smile 2.

Naomi Scott has joined Smile 2 as the new protagonist, pop star Skye Riley who is haunted by the entity after it is transfered to her by a close friend. Additionally, Lukas Gage and Rosemarie DeWitt have also joined the cast of Smile 2 in undisclosed roles. Likewise, Dylan Gelula, Raúl Castillo, and Miles Gutierrez-Riley will all appear, but their roles are being kept under wraps for now.

The Demon Haunts A Pop Star

Though details about the movie's plot were somewhat mysterious for a long time, the trailer has now given viewers everything they need to know. Smile 2 will follow pop star Skye Riley as she is haunted and hunted by the familiar Smile entity from the first movie. Desperate to shake off the cures, Skye will go to any length to shed the demonic entity even if it puts her life and career in danger. Meanwhile, Joel is still hunting for answers after the events of the first film, and his path will likely cross with Skye's as he tracks down the origins of the evil presence.

In anticipation of the film's upcoming release, Paramount has dropped a trailer to hype up the terrifying return of the entity in Smile 2. The teaser starts by introducing pop star Skye Riley who finds one of her concerts ruined by the sudden death of a close friend. This death also passes the Smile entity on to her, and she proceeds to be haunted by several creepy events. The trailer also catches up with Joel, who is determined to hunt for answers concerning the entity.

With weeks to go until the sequel releases, a second trailer for Smile 2 was released in September 2024. Recounting Skye's first encounter with the Smile demon, the trailer then follows her as it gets closer and closer to her as her career continues to skyrocket. Meanwhile, the desperate pop star turns to an expert and is willing to go to any length to shake off the evil curse before it's too late.
