As the time is passing, the smartphones and tablets are touching new technology, High-end specs and fast performance. For performance, the wreath goes to the chips being developed by popular chip makers like Nvidia. In fact, the chip is describes the performance of gadgets, and thus help us tag any particular smartphone as ‘good’ or ‘bad’. After all, the speed does matter, matters a lot.

Taking about the processor industry, a few days back, the Nvidia Tegra 4 benchmarked and the benchmark results were amazing. On the other hand, the much awaited Samsung Galaxy S4, which is going to be unveiled by the maker on March 14th. The smartphone is most likely to be powered  by Samsung Exynos 5 Octa chip. So the competition is going at its best. Let’s have comparison between both chips.

CPU Performance

The one big similarity between both high-end chips is the Cortex A15 architecture for the lead CPU. Yup, both chips use that are offer pretty fast performance. The benchmark results of Nvidia Tegra showed very amazing results. This happen due to its adoption of A15 processor only. A15 processor is the best known till date.

Nvidia Tegra 4 uses four main cores. Out of these, the main one gets clocked at 1.9GHz, while the others get the peak value of 800MHz.

Samsung Exynos 5 Octa chip is whopping 8-cores chip. The main one in this case is clocked at 1.8GHz. Though there are 8 cores, but all are not meant to be used to speed up the device. Only 4 from them perform the speed-up task, while the rest four back up the main processor so that power consumption remains minimum.

In terms of performance, both the chips are best from all the processors available till date. Of course, you will taste an incredible fast speed on the gadgets using any of these processors.

GPU Performance

Nvidia Tegra 4 really impressed all the experts with its GPU Performance that it showed in the benchmark test. The 72-core GPU scored 4148 on Geekbench. Apple’s iPhone only scored 1640. So the difference between two is clearly observable. Isn’t it?

Undoubtedly, Nvidia Tegra 4 is better or should I say far better than that of the chip that powers Apple iPhone 5.

Talking about Samsung Exynos 5 Octa, the tri-core PowerVR SGX544MP3 is clock at impressive 533MHz. The Apple’s A6X is clocked at only 300MHz. Exynos 5 Octa is far better than Apple’s Chip.

So both of these chips under consideration are better than what you get in world’s most popular smartphone iPhone 5. You will get damn faster speed that what you get in Apple Products. This is a matter to worry for Apple.

Other SoC Features

None of these chips have LTE modem in them. This is indeed very surprising move from both the tech giants as Qualcomm has had this facility. Anyway, only one thing that comes into our mind over this surprising move is that these chips are perhaps made by the makers to target tablets.

Nvidia Tegra 4 supports 4GB of DDR3L memory and provides the resolution of 3200 x 2000. It also supports DirectX11 and OpenGL ES 3.0. So, clearly the chip is good for gaming freaks.

Samsung Exynos 5 Octa supports OpenGL ES 2.0 and DirectX 10.1. Talking about the resolution, the chip is expected to deliver 4 k resolutions in the images, though not confirmed yet. But yes, the 1080p is confirmed.

Power Consumption

As already stated, the Nvidia Tegra 4 has four cores. Not all the four cores are used always. They are only used when workload is very high, otherwise, only a few are used so that maximum power can be saved, though this feature is great, but not unique. It can be seen in almost every chip as it’s a basic need.

Talking about Samsung Exynos 5 Octa, the cores switching task goes very fast. Therefore, power consumption is minimum with this chip. This chip can also assign the low power cores to simple applications. So no unnecessary use of cores that consume high power. This is what is missing in Nvidia Tegra 4.

Conclusion

Both the chips are awesome in every aspect and are far better than others available in the market. It is hard to give the crown of ‘best’ to any of two. Performance wise, the crown is shared by both these chips. The next aspect ‘GPU’ is in favor of Nvidia Tegra 3. The third part favors the Samsung Exynos 5 Octa. Coming to the last and most important point, the ‘power consumption’; Samsung Exynos 5 Octa consumes less power.

Overall, the winner from two is Samsung Exynos 5 Octa. High performance, high resolution support, good GPU Performance and amazing power saving make this chip to get the tag of ‘best’ out of these two chips under consideration.
