In recent times, the Chinese Telecom Giant, Huawei has grabbed seized quite a fare share in the smartphone market by introducing cost effective user friendly devices.

Huawei launched one such device in January 2013 – Ascend G600. I find this smartphone to be very pocket friendly and easy to use. Huawei Ascend G600 might not be the best, but it certainly can compete the best ones.

The specifications of the phone are as follows:

  • 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8225
  • RAM: 768 MB
  • 4.5 inch 960×540 pixel, capacitive IPS display
  • Android 4.0.4
  • Rear camera: 8 MP
  • Front camera: 0.3 MP
  • 4 GB Flash memory
  • MicroSD slot
  • 3.5 mm audio jack
  • Sensors: Position sensor, light sensor, proximity sensor, accelerometer
  • Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
  • 1930 mAh battery

Huawei Ascend G600 is not very flashy and has a normal look. But quite decently built and appears to be a stalwart in the hands. Huawei Ascend G600 seems to be quite a professional phone and it is available in Black and White colour only.

If we nail down the specifics, the Huawei Ascend G600’s front portion is occupied with a large display alongwith a front camera and ear-piece and sensors on the top with capacitive touch buttons below the screen.

The Huawei Ascend G600 has a microUSB port on its left. Its back portion has been made of polycarbonate material which also has the 8MP camera, LED Flash and speakers.

So, as I told earlier, Huawei Ascend G600 is not going to be a hear turner but it surely appears a decently built smartphone.

Huawei Ascend G600 has a 4.5-inch qHD (960x540p) IPS display. It is protected by Gorilla Glass, in case of any occasional scratches. The display is eye soothing, looked upon at from any angle, indoor or outdoor. Though, at times, the display appears to be very reflective which may create some problems while working under direct-sun.

The touch screen of the Ascend G600 is very good and quite responsive. The colour output is also fine.

Huawei Ascend G600 runs on Android 4.0.4 alongwith company’s Emotion UI. Huawei has given quick toggles in notification which makes the Ascend G600 more user-friendly.

I would love to see an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update on the phone, which should make the experience even better.

Ascend G600 comes with many installed apps. One of then is All Backup, with the help of which you can have the backup of almost everything on the phone including app data. Its quite amazing and peachy. Ascend G600 also comes with Huawei Cloud+, File Manager with support for Cloud storage.

Ascend G600 supports all major Indian language like Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Telugu, Punjabi, Kannada, and Gujarati. Other languages can also be downloaded from Google.

Huawei Ascend G600 has two cameras – 8MP rear and 0.3MP front. Its front Camera doest not have the resolution that can be talked upon much. However, it’s rear camera packs BSI sensor. Images clicked, both indoor and outdoors, are quite fantastic but Ascend G600 may disappoint you while capturing images low-lit indoors. They may appear noisy and the LED flash does not help much.

The camera app is different from the stock Android version. Huawei has included HDR support, ability to select scene type, white balance, filters and panorama support.

Performance/ Battery Life

Ascend G600 has 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Play processor and 768MB RAM, which make it quite agile. It gives you the liberty to do almost everything from playing games to surfing internet and communicating via emails and much more.

The Ascend G600 gives a fine calling experience. It can also play full HD video files without any hitches. Ascend G600 speakers would never your expectations down and they perform amazingly good. But the speakers face the common disadvantage of rear speakers i.e. the sound get chafed as soon as the device is places on a desk or something. Ascend G600’s Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS also work very fine.

Huawei Ascend G600 comes with a 1930 mAh battery, which holds up to a day while normal usage. Game savvy users may have to re-charge it every 12-14 hours.

Huawei Ascend G600 includes some quite decent features like tough build, decent performance and good battery life. It is quite a worthy and decent contender in light of price range i.e. INR 14,990/- In toto, based on its performance, I am inclined to give it 7/10 ratings.
